Wired QR Barcode for Tag Heuer Watch

A classic example of a QR Code being used in Wired Magazine advertising. Tag Heuer watches placed an advertisement in the fashionable magazine ‘Wired’ in 2010, and on their advert they included a square barcode (technically, its name is a Data Matrix code) and the particular type of barcode they used was a QR Code (which was created by a subsidiary company of Toyota cars, in Japan).

Whether you know them as square codes, QR codes, 2d barcodes or Data Matrix Codes, probably doesn’t make much difference to you. And because most readers will read most types of square barcode, there isn’t really much need for you to know the specific name of the specific code you are looking at, or attempting to use. But certainly, they seem to be all over the place these days and increasing in popularity and uses all the time.

This use by Tag Heuer is typical. And many people might have seen it for the first time. I have included a video below which shows exactly how to use your cell phone as a barcode reader, and what happens when you interact with a barcode like this. Basically, what happens is this:
