Learn how ShopSavvy is leverating NFC
If you are going to be at the App Conference and Hackathon October 26-27 in Santa Clara you really need to check our panel: NFC (near field communications): How is it going to change mobile (Oct 27, 11AM, Room 4, Track 1 – Platform Wars). Matt Weathers (our VP of Product), Edwin Aoki (Architect from PayPal), Dan Preston (CTO at AisleBuyer) will serve on the panel which is moderated by Wade Roush the San Francisco Editor of Xconomy.
Here is the overview: “PayPal has announced mobile plans that include newly acquired assets like Milo.com, Where Inc, and Zong. In May Google announced Google Wallet, its new mobile-payment system based on near field communications. And RIM released its BlackBerry Java SDK v7.0 into beta, which, among other things, allows mobile developers to build NFC applications for the BlackBerry 7 OS. In other words, people can now use cell phones to shop and buy. In the future individual products on store shelves will have tiny NFC enabled labels with product information, advertising, coupons or offers. Come learn about the new trends and technologies, what it means, and how to develop with it in mind.”
Average Wallet Purchase up over 100%
In the last week we have seen two interesting developments with the ShopSavvy Wallet. First, our users seem to be buying a LOT more non-taxed items. Second, and more impressive, is the average purchase value increase. Last week our average purchase was approximately $25. This week our average increased to over $63 per wallet transaction Finally, Buy.com is now our most popular retailer this week.
Students using ShopSavvy Wallet?
Turns out we have a lot of students creating iphone scanner app wallets. If you have ever gone to your local college coop and shopped for books you might have been a little shocked by the prices. Next time take a minute to scan the book with ShopSavvy. You will be surprised by how much cheaper you can get them from retailers who support our wallets. Got a great story about how much you have saved on textbooks using ShopSavvy?
Record Downloads & Traffic this Weekend!
September is shaping up to be a record month for scanner app. Our prior record for traffic and new users was set back in May. Things were pretty slow between June and August as they always are, but we were surprised to see consumers out shopping this early. We usually don’t see a massive increase in users and downloads until October. Our biggest growth was on the Android side. Some of our newer features like ‘Scans Near You’ seem to be a big hit (coming someday to iOS) as well as the new ShopSavvy Wallet.
Each month our users spend 30 years in app!
This week I noticed a few posts describing how much time users spend in various mobile apps. I pulled our data from Flurry (only counts iOS and Android, excludes Symbian and WP7) and was surprised by the numbers. During the average month our users spend more than 30 years scanning barcodes – thats a LOT of scanning.
