Tesla profits soar as customers pay more
Tesla has been raising prices - but that hasn't seemed to dent demand for its electric cars.
Despite the firm facing higher costs, profits at Elon Musk's electric car company soared to $3.3bn (£2.5bn) in the first three months of the year, as customers proved willing to pay more.
The firm's deliveries were up 68% - and would have been higher if not for supply chain shortages, the firm said.
Its Shanghai factory was also recently forced shut due to Covid restrictions.
As the plant reopens this month, staff will be required to sleep at the factory in an effort to avoid further lockdowns, Bloomberg has reported.
"Although limited production has recently restarted, we continue to monitor the situation closely," Tesla said as it shared quarterly results with investors.

2 teens killed in Pittsburgh in recent US mass shooting
Two teenagers have been fatally shot and at least nine people wounded in a mass shooting at a party in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the latest attack in a string of high-profile gun violence incidents in the United States.Authorities said as many as 90 bullets were fired at the party, where many guests were minors, early on Sunday morning following an apparent altercation, according to police. Shell casings indicated handguns and one rifle were used in the shooting, which possibly involved crossfire.Two 17-year-old males later died at the hospital. No arrests had been made and the motive remained unclear.
“It’s heartbreaking; here we are at Easter and we have multiple families, two that won’t see a loved one,” said Pittsburgh Police Chief Scott Schubert. “Others that are going to be – how can you even have a holiday when your child was involved in something traumatic like this?”

When Japan implemented a blanket ban on inbound tourists in April 2020, Andrew William braced for a tough few months.As revenues from his Kyoto tour company An Design plummeted, William shifted to virtual experiences to keep his business afloat.He never could have imagined he would still be struggling more than two years later.
“An Design relies heavily on inbound tourism. Pre-pandemic I was typically leading 20 to 35 walking tours a month. Since March 2020, I have led six walking tours,” William, whose company specialises in tours of Japanese gardens and off-the-beaten-path attractions, told Al Jazeera.
“Making my business here in Japan was a major life goal and I am not going to give up on it so easily. With that being said, this has been extremely difficult and has created an immense amount of stress I don’t know how much longer I can continue in this way.”

Israeli forces raid Al-Aqsa Mosque, 60 Palestinians injured
Israeli police have raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem, with medics saying at least 67 Palestinians have been injured in violence that followed before dawn on Friday.The Islamic endowment that runs the site said Israeli police entered in force before dawn, as thousands of worshippers were gathered at the mosque for early morning prayers.
Videos circulating online showed Palestinians throwing rocks and police firing tear gas and stun grenades. Others showed worshippers barricading themselves inside the mosque amid what appeared to be clouds of tear gas.
The Palestinian Red Crescent emergency service said it evacuated at least 67 wounded people to hospitals. The endowment said one of the guards at the site was shot in the eye with a rubber bullet.
According to the Palestinian Red Crescent, Israeli forces hindered the arrival of ambulances and paramedics from reaching the mosque, as Palestinian media said that dozens of injured worshippers remained trapped inside the compound.

Israeli troops have killed a Palestinian in the city of Nablus after a series of attacks inside Israel sparked five consecutive days of army raids in the illegally occupied West Bank.
“The young man, Muhammad Hassan Muhammad Assaf, 34, died after being shot in the chest by the Israeli occupation army during the aggression on the city of Nablus,” the Palestinian health ministry said on Wednesday.

The death toll from landslides and floods in the Philippines has risen to 58 as rescuers dug up more bodies with their bare hands in villages buried in rain-fuelled landslides.
Most of the deaths from tropical storm Megi – the strongest to hit the Southeast Asian archipelago this year – were in the central province of Leyte.At least 47 people were confirmed to have been killed and more than 100 injured after waves of mud smashed into some six villages around Baybay City over the weekend, local authorities said. Some 27 people remain missing.

Vijay’s Beast to collect Rs 40 crore on opening day in TN
Actor Vijay’s most-awaited movie Beast is all set to open in cinemas across the world on Wednesday. Despite releasing on a non-holiday mid-week date, the film is expected to shatter previous box office records of Tamil cinema.
As per film trade experts, Beast is likely to collect over Rs 40 crore in Tamil Nadu on opening day.

16 people injured in Brooklyn, NY subway shooting
Ten people were shot on Tuesday morning inside a subway train in Brooklyn, New York, after a suspect put on a gas mask, set off a smoke canister then began shooting at commuters, city officials said.
Sixteen people were injured in the incident, 10 by gunfire, New York Fire Department Acting Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said in a briefing, attributing the other injuries to smoke inhalation, shrapnel or panic.
The attacker fired a handgun, and fled the scene. Police officials called on the public to contact them with any photos, videos or other information that could shed more light on the incident or lead them to the suspect.
