5 Types of Strollers Your Newborn Baby Needs

Whether you’re a first-time or a veteran mum, the right baby stroller in Singapore can make all the difference in making everyday life with your baby easier. 

Picking a baby stroller isn’t as easy as it sounds, though. There’s a lot to consider, including the number of babies in the family, their age and size, your location, and even your lifestyle as a parent.

To help you out, we’ve put together a guide on the different types of baby strollers in Singapore, so you can choose the one that makes the most sense for you and your little bundle of joy(s)!

• Standard Baby Strollers

Standard baby strollers are basic strollers for everyday errands, park playdates, paediatrician visits, and other regular daily activities.

Compared to other stroller types, standard units usually have a larger, taller, and wider frame. This makes a great investment if you’re after a baby stroller in Singapore that can wheel your little one until toddler years. 

Another major difference is the bigger storage unit, so you can stash spare nappies, a change of clothes, an extra pacifier, and even wipes in there. Some also come with some sort of storage on the handle, like a cup holder or tray for other baby essentials. 

The durable structure and sturdy tires make them a popular choice among mums looking for a bigger bang for their buck, especially if they’re thinking of adding another baby to the family soon!

Just a note here that some standard strollers can be heavy and bulky, so they’re not exactly a practical option if you have to take public transportation. 

• Travel Stroller

Travelling with your newborn may sound like a daunting task, especially if you’re doing it alone, but the right travel stroller can make the entire journey hassle-free!

Travel strollers are recognised for their lightweight and portable design, allowing mums to get from one place to another with little to no trouble. Their larger and sturdier wheels with smooth steering are perfect for any bumps you may encounter while out and about. 

If you don’t have a car seat yet, you may want to get your hands on a travel system instead. It’s basically a combination of an infant car seat and a stroller. Having an infant car seat that connects to your stroller allows you to carry your sleeping baby from the car to the stroller without waking them up!

• Jogging Strollers

A jogging stroller is exactly what you think it is: a baby stroller designed for mummies who enjoy strolling, walking, and jogging. 

While regular strollers only have 3 wheels (1 in the front and 2 in the back), jogger strollers come with an extra front wheel for added suspension and manoeuvrability. The wheels of jogging strollers are typically rubber and filled with air to give babies a smooth ride. 

This means you’ll have an easier time controlling the stroller, no matter how bumpy and rough the road gets! We highly recommend them whether you’re an experienced marathoner or just looking for a walking stroller. 

If you’re the former, you might want to do a test drive first to make sure the jogging stroller has the appropriate safety features.

• Lightweight Strollers

Lightweight strollers are a pared-down version of full-sized strollers. If you’re after the same level of durability but don’t want to do the heavy lifting, then this is your best option. 

This type of stroller is light, portable, and easy to manoeuvre. Some units also come with a strap that allows mums to carry it after collapsing it. 

Although lightweight strollers have fewer features than standard strollers, the wide and well-padded seats and accessories like storage baskets are still there! 

Not all lightweight strollers are for newborns, though, because some don’t recline far enough. Most of them are designed for babies 6 months or older.

• Double Strollers

Double strollers come with 2 seats to accommodate 2 babies with little to no age gap! If you have twins or a baby and a toddler, then this is the most practical option. 

The seats are positioned either side-by-side or one in front of the other. Similar to full-sized strollers, they usually have a larger storage space on the bottom where you can put things like diapers, clothes, snacks, and even your personal items. 

Finally, the trade-off with double strollers is the size. Assembling and collapsing it on your own might be impossible.
