Home Heating Systems: Choosing the Right One
Your home should have a high-quality hot water system and a central heating system. In places where the temperatures can drop below zero at some points during the year and during colder seasons, this is especially true. There will then be a need for some reliable quality system. A furnace is a heating system that draws air from the house. In the system, the air is drawn through ductwork and then directed into a warming area, where the air is heated before being redirected back into the living areas.
Modern models of these systems use a blower that recirculates heated and routed air. A heating system like this can be powered by oil, gas, or electricity, as well as using wood or coal. An air filter helps to remove dust and other particles from the air that is circulated.
A pilot light is used to warm the heated exchange unit in gas and oil boilers today. Before air is circulated throughout the house, it is warmed up. The exhaust gases from oil and gas furnaces are blown directly out of the house through a special flue. There are heating elements or strips in an electric furnace that help to heat the air.
Comparatively to other furnace systems, the electric furnace system is much cleaner and simpler to operate. There is a sealed firebox in the design for coal and wood heaters. These heaters burn wood and coal. Heat exchangers are built into the system, which then directs the air to the desired location.
An alternative heating system uses metal vents that direct the warm air into the home through the system. The metal vents are usually installed on the floor or the walls of rooms. This type of home system comes with thermostats, which you can use to control the temperature with the settings on the thermostat. These are always attached to the wall. Temperature is indicated by these thermostats. Oil is burned in tanks inside a home heating system that uses it as fuel.
Another type of heater is called a baseboard heater, which is a metal unit with an electrical element inside. Metal units have their own controls, which are measured in increments. The temperature of the room is not indicated with this type of heating system. The reason for this is that this type of heating system is used by quite a few homes as their sole source of heating.
