Coronavirus vs. casinos online in Poland
Will casinos suffer from coronavirus?
The current situation with coronavirus weakens the overall economy around the world. Recently, people are quite reluctant to leave their homes, and they can't even do it, even if they wanted it, which is understandable. In this article, we talk about casinos and their current situation. You will find out if the gambling section is also economically threatened and what you can do about it. We invite you to read.
Ground casinos and bookmakers
As you can guess, the situation at land-based casinos is unenviable. All game rooms are currently closed, the same applies to most bookmakers. This means that many people are currently out of work. Croupiers, as well as people who take bets, are exposed. There are about 5,000 of these people in Poland alone, and the dismissal of such a large number of people can have tragic consequences.
The owners of these types of houses are also in a bad situation because their income will be in the red this month and probably next year. This is a very difficult situation, which unfortunately affected not only people running the gambling business. It is worth mentioning that many bookmaking companies are very young and were created around 2017. Such young companies can now have very serious financial problems.
The flourishing of online casinos
Online casinos in Poland are in a completely different situation. You can use them from anywhere, especially from home. Servers are working and there is no problem with them. That's why many people have switched to online casinos, which is now a much better decision. People who like betting are, however, in a slightly more difficult situation, because it is difficult to find typical Polish sporting events on the internet, although it is also possible.
Online casino owners are doing their best to keep players entertained in the form of many lotteries, tournaments and other events. Most of them work very well so that no one has to wait too long for account verification. Many people turn to vending machines because bet fans have found another hard nut to crack. Due to the prevailing pandemic, the organizers had to cancel many sporting events, including this year's Euro 2020, which is the most anticipated event in football. Some casinos have already created Euro-related tournaments, many people have placed bets and eagerly awaited matches. The same applies to this year's Olympic Games in Tokyo, which must also be postponed.
It is calculated that over 60% of all bets had to be canceled, which is a very big blow for bookmakers. Ground-based casinos in Poland also suffer from this, mainly because the players played on the spot, and this time all casinos must be closed, no one knows how long. We also cannot forget about the most popular lottery in Poland, i.e. the lotto. Most of the points had to be closed, but you can also play through the website and with the help of the application, so if you planned this type of bets, you can still fill out coupons, although we are not sure if Totalizator will not give up organizing draws.
Is there a solution?
Landline casino and bookmaker owners have noticed that their earnings are falling sharply. The Association of Employers and Employees of Bookmaking Companies addressed the government with several requests that could reduce pandemic losses. One of them is the temporary reduction of gaming tax, which is currently 12% to 10%. This request is not very demanding, so in the current situation, the government can go hand in hand bookmakers.
The association also asks for the possibility of paying the tax at a later date, i.e. in September. This request may seem a little more demanding, especially since the State Treasury always receives huge amounts of money (around PLN 800 million). In this case, the government would have to give up similar cash for several months. At the moment we do not know what the government thinks about it, but soon the Association should get an answer to its request.
