Officers Found Signal Jammers During Search
In connection with a suspected burglary, Vanderbilt police officers came across signal jammers during their search.
The device in question, as highlighted by Sheriff Robinson, had the functionality to disable Wi-Fi cameras, ring doorbells, and radio-based security systems. Its possession serves only one sinister purpose - to carry out illicit acts and malicious intentions.
Authorities have stated that there are no laws against owning a signal jammers, but using one is deemed a federal offense.
Sheriff Robinson stated that the next step is to consult with lawmakers regarding the matter. He noted the absence of a specific law in Indiana dealing with interference with communications, a gap that he believes should be filled. Robinson expressed his intention to cooperate with state legislators in order to address this issue.
The sheriff's office has reported that the origin of it all can be traced back to an alleged bold burglary that occurred during the day in the Cambridge Village neighborhood.
A residence is thought to have been the target of two men who utilized high-tech gear.
Deputies mentioned that a couple arrived home on Sunday to discover two unfamiliar men inside their residence.
Law enforcement has stated that both perpetrators escaped in a gray Jeep after leaving the scene.
By being in the right place at the right time, deputies successfully made an arrest and credited a FLOCK camera purchased by Cambridge Village through the sheriff’s office for the achievement.
Responding to a burglary incident, deputies of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Jaime Riveras, a Chilean national, on Highway 41.
Sheriff Robinson reported that Riveras claimed he bypassed Evansville on his route from St. Louis to Florida.
Sheriff Noah Robinson announced that, in addition to eyewitness statements, a search warrant was obtained for the vehicle's contents. This led to the discovery of two cellphones, which displayed GPS data placing the suspect's vehicle at the Riveras' residence during the burglary.
Among the charges brought against Riveras is interference with the reporting of a crime, stemming from the alleged use of a GPS blockers.
