How Technology is Affecting our Lives Negatively?
Meeting the ever-changing lifestyle needs, making work and most of our everyday activities, hassle-free, no wonder, technology is a wonderful thing.
Technology has a positive impact but at the same time have negatively affected our health too. We humans have become so much dependent on technology that it has hindered our mental as well as physical functioning. Life of Millenials completely revolves around the tech. As we all know, a dependency is never good, especially if it is affecting our health and emotions.
Technology-driven devices - smartphones, laptops, tablets are primarily held responsible for affecting human health as most of us are hooked to them either for work, entertainment or leisure purpose.
Here are the most common problems caused due to the extensive usage of these devices:
Pain in the Musculoskeletal system:
Constant use of digital devices, especially smartphones can lead to Musculoskeletal problems. Most of us spend most of our time every day on mobile phones, either chatting, browsing, watching or shopping.
The way you hold your head while using mobile phones is an unnatural position due to which prolonged smartphone time results in neck pain, shoulder pain and spine stress. It also causes repetitive strain on fingers, thumbs wrists, and elbows.
To reduce this strain
- Cut down the time you spend on any digital devices
- Take breaks often and stretch
- Maintain proper posture
- If the pain continues, visit a doctor
Eye problem:
Do you spend more than 5 to 6 hours a day on any digital device? Your eyes are at risk. Most of our work is related to computers hence we are left with no choice but spend prolonged screen-time. Apart from that we also spend time playing video games, watching movies, browsing. Hence this has led to problems like blurred vision, dry eyes, focusing difficulty, itchy eyes, headache, and digital eye strain.
You can’t stop the usage but you can eliminate the eye strain
- Take frequent screen breaks
- Blink your eyes often
- If you spend too much time playing video games, then you can opt for gaming glasses
- The digital devices emit harmful blue light which affects the eyes. Use blue light filter glasses and block the light from entering the eyes
- If you witness constant strain, it is better to visit an eye doctor and get your eyes examined
Emotional problem:
You are virtually connected to people but not physically. Some people start feeling left out as they are socially isolated. Due to digital device addiction, they gradually lose their connection with actual people.
Researchers also suggest that people tend to develop depression, mental illness, and aggressive behavior.
The only solution is to break up with digital devices and patch up with real people. Start socializing. If you are witnessing depression, you can take medical help or consult some psychiatrist, if needed.
Using technology is no harm but getting dependent on it can affect your mental and physical health. Knowing the possible negative effects can alert you where to stop or how to eliminate the risk. So enjoy the positive impact of technology without getting negatively affected.
