Get Your Golf Fix With The PGA Tour 2K21 Video Game
Like all things in 2020, the ongoing COVID pandemic completely derailed the traditional golf season in the form of reschedules, outright cancellations, and empty-spectator events. The recently-played Masters Tournament practically put a bow on the unordinary season — and boy, what a finish it was!
Dustin Johnson won the event in historic fashion. For one, the event took place in November instead of its usual April slot. Typically, it's the first major championship played, though, this year it was the final of three (the US Open was completely cancelled with no make-up date).
But second, Johnson was untouchable on the greens during the Masters. He scored -20 at Augusta National — the lowest score to par in the history of the entire event and also tying the lowest mark in a major championship all-time. It's his first green jacket and second major in a career with a lot of mileage ahead.
But now what? Golf will go into hibernation for a few months, while the Masters returns to its usual April position — putting the event only five months out. And Johnson is already being pegged by Vegas oddsmakers as the Masters favorite.
However, there’s no need to wait that long to get your golf fix. Thanks to the PGA Tour 2K21 video game, anyone can replicate the real-life game on their home console. No, seriously, this game is almost as real as it gets.
Don’t believe us? Welp, we have a few reasons why you should pick up the game controller in lieu of the golf club during these bitter cold Winter months:
Solid Roster Of Players
Unlike the NBA and NFL, where league players all enter in licensing agreements with its players association — which then turn around a sign deals with video-game makers to use the athletes’ likeness in games — golf is more of a free-for-all. Some golfers sign their likeness away, some don’t.
Therefore, the PGA Tour 2K21 roster isn’t as extensive as a gamer would hope. Many big-names like the aforementioned Johnson or Tiger Woods aren’t playable. Regardless, the game roster does include 12 unique pros including Justin Thomas (who is the game cover star), Sergio Garcia, Matt Kuchar, and others!
Even more, the graphics and game mechanics are almost life-like. Take Garcia, for instance. His swing is the stuff of legends and it's replicated to a tee inside the game.
Build Careers & Golf Courses
You didn’t believe us when we said PGA Tour 2K21 comes off as real, did you? If so, take a gander at two game modes — career mode and build a course.
Let’s start with the course builder. The game allows players to design the golf course of their dreams, or better yet, of their nightmare. There’s more than a thousand custom options that players can pick from to build a life-like playing environment.
Then there’s career mode. Here, players can compete in 15 licensed courses, all the while building rivalries with other pros and inking sponsorship deals from the likes of adidas, Bridgestone, and more existing corporations publisuites.
More Accessible Than Actual Golf
Of course, we know playing golf in real-life can become costly quickly — golf clubs, club memberships, caddy rentals, etc. can all be on the high side. But playing PGA Tour 2K21 comes at only a fraction of the cost.
Released in August of 2020, the game is now being discounted. Instead of its brand-new price of $60, it can be found at retailers like Amazon or Best Buy at only $45 — and don’t be surprised if it drops during Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
Obviously, you’ll need a game system to play on, if you don’t already have one. The good thing is PGA Tour 2K21 is available on a slew of platforms — Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and Microsoft Windows. The latter two options make it especially cheap to play as most home or laptop computers should suffice.
Folks, that’s three solid reasons why the PGA Tour 2K21 game will be a great companion while you wait for the real sport to return. Don’t just take our word for it, though, give it a try and be blown away by the video game’s sheer realism!
