World of Warships else is a team-focused game
She is far from a powerful cruiser, and I would in terms of competitiveness and even sometimes enjoyment recommend any other Tier III cruiser over her. But she can work if you know what you are doing and if your team is not a complete load of potatoes. Unfortunately low tiers are potato farms so don’t expect any expert players to help support you in battle.
In such cases, Katori will fall very hard as she has too many weaknesses and not enough strengths to make an even okay solo ship. She needs strong allies to either support her or to tank for her whenever she is on the attack. Without any assistance enemy battleships and cruisers make playing her really frustrating. But when she was properly supported she could do just as well as any other Tier III cruiser and support the battle fleet well enough to make her a viable teammate.
Learn when to use AP and HE effectively. High-explosive(HE) rounds are good for causing fires, damaging ships you cannot penetrate, and for crippling a ship by damaging modules. AP shells do more damage if you can penetrate the ship in question, however if you over penetrate a poorly armored ship you will do less damage than using HE rounds. For most engagements use HE against ships at very long range to cause fires by hitting the deck/turrets and also against poorly armored ships like destroyers. If you liked this post and you would like to get even more information concerning WoWS Doubloons kindly check out the web site. Use AP against battleships/cruisers you can penetrate and at ranges where you can assure your rounds will be hitting the ship at the correct angle.
At the start of the battle it's best to hit 'P' to disable your automated AA and batteries early in the match. You'll lose some close range damage as well as some protection from aircraft, but you also won't pop up on the enemy radar because some flyboy got a little closer then you were expecting. As in most modern shooters firing a weapon of any kind highlights you to the enemy, and with your lighter armor any well-placed round can send you to the locker.
Also remember that you will light yourself up on the minimap when you start shooting, no matter what your Concealment rating is. So don’t shoot unless you need to. Use HE rounds as your standard ammunition. If you know you’re going to be concentrating on Cruisers or Battleships, swap to AP.
