List Of Some Influential African Gospel Artistes

Africa has indeed been the home of gospel music. Africans have been given awards severally from around the world due to the inspirational songs released. Africa is so blessed with devoted and talented gospel singers who have over the years dedicated their lives to serving God and spreading the gospel to all parts of the world.

A lot of African Gospel artist has blessed us with their amazing and spirit-filled gospel songs, albums, ministrations, and concerts that have in turn glorified the name of God all over. Below are the names of a few that we have been able to gather.

1. Sinach

Sinach with her real name ( Osinachi Kalu Okoro Egbu) is born on the 30th of March 1972 and hailed from Afikpo South, Ebonyi State, Nigeria. She graduated with a degree in Physics from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. She got married to Joseph Egbu in 2014 and became a mother five years later. Sinach has impacted the world and Africa at large with her 2015 hit single titled Way Maker which has led to her international recognition and has also further established her as the best gospel artist in Africa. The hit single Way Waker received both international and local awards some of which is Waymaker – Live, titled after the single which recorded commercial success and was certified gold by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RISA) in 2019, Sinach became the first African artist to top the Billboard Christian Songwriters chart with the song Way Maker and hold the record for the most viewed African gospel song on the Youtube with over 200millions views.

2. Mercy Chinwo

Mercy Nnenda Chinwo was born on 5 September 1990 in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. She is the fourth child in a family of five (the first daughter). Chinwo has been singing right from a very early age. She started in the church children's choir before transitioning to the adult choir prior to launching her musical career.

Mercy Chinwo has been recognized as one of the hitmakers in the country which has, in turn, got her a lot of fan base in the country. Right from the release of Excess Love which is still earning lots of streams across all digital platforms to Chinedum, which is currently over 20 million views on youtube. We can now say Mercy Chinwo has been a blessing to the world.

3. Benjamin Dube

Born in January 23, 1962, in Johannesburg, South Africa. Pastor Benjamin Dube is a top, multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and music producer.

Dube was born the youngest of four children in Johannesburg in 1962, to minister Benjamin and gospel singer and educator Grace. The boy's parents formed a family group called the Dube Family Singers. At age seven, Benjamin, Jr. began singing and touring internationally on the church circuit with the group and at 12, in 1974, he learned to play guitar, piano, and drums.

Dube established himself as a solo act in 1986 with his third hit single titled Holy Spirit.
