Sub-Forum Support FAQ
NOTE: This FAQ contains information for upcoming functionality. The "Full" sub-forum type is not yet available, but will be in early September 2009.
Q. Do you support Sub-Forums?
A. Yep, we have two types.
1. Category Sub-Forums or "Minimal Data" forums. This forum type is designed to take up less space and shows as a name and a new post indicator only at the bottom of a Forum Category.
2. "Full" sub-forums. This type of sub-forum is a sub-forum that is linked to a parent forum. These forums shows like the Category sub-forums but show under the forum name they are linked to. Additionally, when you view the forum there is a list of these sub-forums displayed at the top of the forum page.
Q. I want to create sub-forums for each class in my game under a "class" forum. What advice can you give?
A. The first instinct for many users is to create sub-forums of type 2 or "full" sub-forums for each class. Category sub-forums were actually created to do this in a better way. Our feeling was that the "Class" forum is often underutilized, so having a Category called "Class" with a bunch of Category subforums meant that there wasn't a Class forum to just go unused.
Ultimately, how you use sub-forums to accomplish class forums is up to you and we'll help you implement them however you want.
Q. When I create a forum it asks if I want to make it a sub-forum and then it asks if I want to attach it to a forum. What does all that mean?
A. If you only make it a subforum and don't attach it to a forum then you get a Category Sub-forum if you attach it to a forum then you get a "Fulll" Sub-Forum.
Q. When I attach a sub-forum to a forum the category gets changed. What gives?
A. Sub-forums have to be in the same category as their parent forum so when the sub-forum is created the category may be changed to match.

We do not currently have a feature to restrict forums/membership by age. Your best bet is to add a question about age to your sites application process. GamerLaunch is not intended to be a place for mature content. If you want to have a restricted forum section, you can use the existing permissions features to restrict that. Discerning that based on age is something you'll need to curate yourself.
