Not sure if this is the right place to post this BUT:
I am the IT guy for a clan I belong to. We are thinking of using GamerLaunch for our website and voice servers, but before the switch is made, I wanted to double check a couple of things:
- How long does the trail last? We were thinking of giving the ultimate place a trial run before devoting any money into it first.
- I currently own the domain name for our clan, and will be changing it's nameservers to point here once we finalize everything. What features are currently available for custom domains? Specifically, am I able to set up SRV records, MX Records, etc. Does it come with a built in mail server for me to setup custom emails for our clan leadership, etc?
- For the ultimate plan, it mentions you can upgrade the number of voice slots past the 50 included. How much does it cost per slot past 50 for that plan? We currently are using a 75 slot Teamspeak server.
Thanks for any and all help and guidance.
Hiya. I'm just a user of the GL service, but I'll try to answer as best I can. If you need more in-depth answers, you can email GL at email@example.com
As far as I know, the trial lasts 7 days. I'm really not very good with domain names ..we have one for our site (www.darkwolves.eu) and it was very easy to set up, simply changing the A-Name at my domain name host and changing a setting in the admin panel of my website.
GL themselves don't do domain name hosting .. but if you already own a domain name, can you not set up custom emails from that? My Domain Name company allows me to set up email addresses that I can then forward where I want (so for example I have an email address of firstname.lastname@example.org which I've then set to just forward to a free email mailbox - like yahoo, hotmail, google, etc). My Domain name host also allows me to set up free webmail accounts linked to my domain (although I've not tried that).
Sorry I don't know about the Teamspeak thing. We're lucky in that we have a guild member who has his own servers that we've been able to install Teamspeak on, and we managed to apply for, and get, an NPL from Teamspeak (http://npl.teamspeakusa.com/ts3npl.php )
I hope that helps.
It actually helps alot. Reason I asked about the domain thing for emails is because typically to get the custom domain to fully integrate with a site like this, you have to point the domain to the nameservers of the hosting company for the site (in this case, GamerLaunch, so for example: ns1.gamerlaunch.com and ns2.gamerlaunch.com, if thats applicable).
When you do this, the domain, even though hosted via a third party, such as godaddy, is no longer pointed at their nameservers, and therefore email will no longer work, unless you can find a way to properly configure the MX records with the site host (GL) to point back to your domains email service (mail.godaddy.com, for example).
If their domain control panel supports SRV records along with A and CNAME records, teamspeak setup should be easy.
Ah right. I don't seem to have any problem with it, but I'm a complete noob when it comes to things like that and just followed the instructions - I just assumed that the way mine works would be the same for everyone regardless of domain name host.
There are instructions here for setting up domain names, so perhaps that might help too:
