V4 versus V5
I'm new to this site, having just started our Kinship's page/home here Saturday so forgive me for asking a lot of questions that others may see as self-evident.
When we started the Kinship site it created it with what is referred to here as V5 -- but I recently came across information elsewhere in the support area indicating that V5 was primarily aimed at "Mobile Users"...so is it permissible to revert our site to V4, and would we gain anything by doing so? ie. Access to other/previous Templates and site customization features? Templates such as these: http://www.gamerlaunch.com/product/feature-list/templates/
Wanted to ask this before we get too far along with the site using V5 and then find that changing to V4 causes us to have to "start over".
None of our Members are or will be "Mobile Users".
Thank you for your time and assistance.
Hi,
V5 is better suited for mobile and is easier to customize. I think V5 has a cleaner sharper look also. You can switch to V4 to give it a try if you like. To change your site to V4 got to Admin dash-> site settings->global settings-> site layout setting-> change to V4 and update. Site layout will stay the same between the two versions.

V5 is prettier and more simple to customise .. so if you're happy with it, I'd stick with it. As far as I'm aware, it is still in beta and more options should be added in the future.
Having said that, I'm sticking with V4 because although it isn't as pretty or simple to work with, it has more options ... it all depends on what you want from your site.
If you want to see two alternatives ..

imo i do not like v5 at all. very limited customizing unless possible if you can do css. no use of templates. the layouts feel very clunky... tbh the feel and use of v5 make me want to switch to a different site all together. i loved the old dashboard. but again its just my opinion.. ty for directions to try v4

If there's something specific you're trying to do with your site, shout up .. we may be able to give suggestions.
Although V5 seems limited on first glance, the fact that the "template" is split into different sections actually makes a lot of options available.
Generally, a "template" on these types of sites is simply a standard combination of background, header and layout (number of columns, how big the header is, etc). Here you get to pick each individually. Do note as well that, if you prefer the three column layout generally, but don't want three columns, you just don't put any widgets in that column and the site layout will adjust to match.
The other advantage of V5 is that you can make changes and see how they look .. but if they don't work you can just revert, without affecting your live site. There have been a few times in the past on V4 where I've made a change and then realised it mucked everything up .. then I had to go back and try to work out where to revert it.
