News Widget non-functioning

On my site's homepage is a Widget, top-center below the banner and menu...it is configured (I thought) to show latest posts from "News and Announcements" section of my forums.  There are currently three new posts in that forum, yet the display shows "No News is Currently Available".

Can someone help with this issue please? My site is created with the new "Beta 5" version...it defaulted to that yesterday when I began (I am brand new, since yesterday, to all this).

I have discovered that the only Forum posts which the "News Widget" I originally asked for help with will pick up and display are those posts which have been marked as "Announcement" -- any other post is ignored.

Is this working as intended, or a mistake? If it is working as intended, then it needs to be noted in the configuration settings for the Widget.  This over-sight caused me to waste a lot of time trying to discover why the Forum Posts were not being picked up and displayed.
