Recruiting Search Options
Hi
I thought this was there before, but perhaps I imagined it? I've just been having a quick look at the "Recruiting" pages but there doesnt appear to be a way to search on a particular realm (for WoW) ... was this ever there? Is it a possibility?
It just makes sense to me that the majority of people are going to be looking for guilds (or members) on a specific realm .. when I did a search it didn't even differentiate between EU and US ... I did a search for English realms at GMT0 and it brought up a list of guilds on US realms.
... ah .. it seems that if I do a search with GMT+1 that brings up EU guilds. I'm guessing this really relies upon the person making the advert to select a specific time zone (and pretty sure that the US isn't in GMT0, so those guys must have chosen the wrong option). Which means there will probably be quite a few recruitment posts that simply will not be found at the correct time zone.
It would be more ideal to be able to pick the realm the guild is on when you make the recruitment post .. or at the very least make it obvious that the time zone referred to when you're filling in the recruitment advert is the time zone of your realm/server ... (although it would still be ideal to be able to search for a specific realm on your recruitment pages).
It looks like our developers updated that in a recent release. Can you put in a Feature Request for the Search by Server option? I'll pitch it to the powers-that-be in the near future as well.
We're glad to listen to our users' feedback, but that particular request was closed because it didn't meet the minimum threshold of 20 votes in a month. We encourage people to resubmit ideas they'd like to see, though!
A full explanation of how the request system works can be found here: https://guildlaunch.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/366826-how-does-the-feature-request-system-work

I appreciate the response and I did put another suggestion in. Still would like to see this implemented. Without it, the guild search function is pretty useless. Need other filters too such as alliance or horde, casual or hardcore, weekday or weekend, early or late. I'm not going to put in a suggestion for those. Either you care or you don' t and from my experience using your site to this point, I get the distinct feeling you don't. Considering removing my support and guild somewhere a bit more responsive to the user at this point.
That being said, if it gets past the minimum threshold for new ideas, we'll gladly look into it!

From my point of view, your assessment of GL "caring" or not is really unfair and unfounded ... you have to understand that they get constant lists of things that people want to see introduced as a new feature, or changed in some way. They have a finite number of staff (as does every company) and can only do so much at once. It makes complete sense to try to deal with things on a priority basis .. with those items that affect the most number of people being dealt with first, together with any fixes/changes that can be made very easily.
Stuff that takes longer to do, that less people are interested in (as shown by the number of people NOT voting for this particular item) get a low priority.
Do I think this particular item should be a priority? No, not really .. not enough people want it or use it ... however, I do believe it is one of those things where people don't use it at the moment because, to be frank, it is fairly useless. If/when they get around to updating it, more people will use it, and then they will no doubt find even more people wanting changes to it :p
I've been with GL for quite some time now and have posted many items that I felt needed attention .. from one-off bugs to feature updates .. and in my experience GL react VERY quickly to any bugs or major site problems (we're talking hours here .. sometimes minutes .. and bearing in mind I'm in a completely different time zone, that's impressive). Feature updates take a little longer, but they give good feedback and do show that they listen.
I've been to several other guild hosting sites over the years so I have no problem moving if necessary, but I've not found another host anywhere that responds as well, and as quickly, as GL do.
Back on topic - if you post a link to your suggestion, I'll vote for it .. and there's no reason why you can't include the additional ideas for improving the guild search option on the same suggestion, as they're all linked.
Never mind, found it: http://guildlaunch.uservoice.com/forums/106449-guild-launch-feature-requests/suggestions/6959267-recruit-by-realm-on-recruiting
I'd suggest that if you are particularly passionate about an idea, you use more than one vote on it as well .. you can use up to three votes per suggestion.

Thank you for the suggestion. I didn't know I could vote more than once. That said, the prior post you made was like salt in a wound, but I don't expect you to know what I'm talking about since you only have this post to base your opinion on. I am having another issue with Guildlaunch being handled in another thread very poorly by them. I am basing my opinion on more than what you are seeing in this post.
Furthermore, I've have pursued their forums and it doesn't look to me like the forums get that much traffic anyway. Only people who have a problem and seems like that has tapered off and I won't even hazard a guess as to why since we would probably not agree anyway ;)
As you noted, people are not using the Guild Search (and I daresay the voting feature) because for the most part, it is pretty useless in its current state. I hear you feel optimistic that may change at some point in the future and granted you have more experience with this board than I do, but my first impression (and those are always impossible to make over) is NOT a good one.
I would link the problem I'm having but they deleted my posts to the thread (I'm not the only one having the problem) because I am in contact with the Akismet technician that is trying to help them fix the problem and they don't want to look bad because of what was said by that technician. I can post the whole back and forth between them and the tech **THROUGH ME BECAUSE THEY WON'T GIVE ANYONE AN EMAIL ADDRESS TO DEAL WITH THEM DIRECTLY INCLUDING THEIR OWN VENDOR** elsewhere ;) ;) ;) but I'm not really trying to rock the boat. I just want the problems taken care of and not hidden under the rug .. oh, look, everything is fine here and we even have fanboys.
I'm so pleased to hear your experience has been so stellar and you are satisfied. I however, AM NOT. I'm guessing there are other users of both ilks, so why belabor the issue?
Of course, I understand the voting system and on paper it sounds great, but in practice if people are not using it, then it is USELESS!
GL have various methods for contacting them .. including these support forums which are closely and regularly monitored. Just bear in mind that they only officially read them during work hours (and bear in mind you might not necessarily be in the same time zone as them). They can also be accessed via their Facebook page and direct via email.
I'm not saying that they're perfect .. there is always room for improvement .. but what I am saying is that they're a lot closer to that point than many other guild hosts out there.
As far as the voting system goes .. people are using it. If you browse through you will see that many people have voted for many things .. and the majority of those, if not all, have had feedback of some sort by GL. Just because one or two ideas didn't get an influx of votes, doesn't mean the system is useless.
I don't apologise for being a fangirl ... but from my personal experience, and how I have seen GL deal with other problems on the site, I feel that is justified.
When I arrived at GL I was jaded and depressed, and feeling persecuted by the poor level of service I had received elsewhere .. the last host I was with objected so vehemently to any requests for bugfixes (bug fixes .. not improvements), that they actually banned me from their forums and locked my guild website .. and I've certainly made more noise more often on GL forums than I ever did on theirs.
The grass can always appear greener when you're having a problem .. I'd just suggest you give them a reasonable amount of time to try and sort things before looking elsewhere.

I'm sorry to hear that you feel that the voting system is useless. People do use it, features do get pulled from there into development and the like, but not every idea gets pulled out. If you are passionate about an idea and want to see it succeed, I strongly recommend you tell your users about it as well so they can vote.
As far as the other issue goes, I just wanted to clarify one thing: it's not that we're sweeping anything under the rug. I deleted your post in the other topic because you'd publicly posted a third party email address that (as far as I know) they don't publish, along with the full name of one of their employees.
The contents of the email weren't bad (they were just asking for our email address, which as mentioned previously is support@guildlaunch.com ), but we take privacy concerns like that very seriously. If I notice someone posting an email address or things along those lines, I either edit or remove the post in question.
Again, I am glad to work with you, with any vendors and with other teams to get any issues resolved! I don't want you to have any issues, and will actively try to get them squared away, so please don't feel like I'm trying to marginalize your issues. :) I am here to work with you!
I'm feeling much more optimistic today and going forward that if the issue can't be fixed, maybe we can find a work around for it ;) I'm sorry about the private info but thought that was public as he offered it up freely and seemed eager to work with you to fix the issue. Won't do that again. I got private mail at site from your people so can only assume you have connected with him and working on a solution now =)
As for the guild search, well that was just the straw so to speak. I feel heard in saying people aren't going to complain or make suggestions if they aren't using the feature because it doesn't provide useful results. I notice you support several games and maybe WoW is singular in that they have so many servers so this may be a game specific need. I will direct my members to upvote the suggestion and perhaps make another one about other useful filters, but I'm still feeling like you need to hear maybe it isn't being upvoted because people aren't using the recruit here ;) Obviously, this isn't the only place to recruit and I'm using other methods as well, but it would be a HUGE plus if this was an option too!
Again, sorry but I'm female too and I get snarky sometimes *snicker*. I will own that and appreciate the feedback. Good luck on both these issues. If I can help in any way, yank my chain. I will do what I can to resolve any issues.
Thanks!
