V5 Site - Ranks not working from Import
On V5 when setting up ranks. ROSTERS-->RANKS
The in Game Ranks column is blank. This is always preset and cant be changed by anyone.
So after setting up the Ranks of my guild and do the import - Making sure the Box for IMport Ranks is checked... none of the characters get assigned its rank. I have to manually assign ranks to characters in order for rank badges to show up in forum posts.
In the past, I wrote up a nice how-to on setting up ranks properly so they are assigned automatically upon import. It worked perfectly with the old Site... V5 does not.
Here is my post: http://www.gamerlaunch.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?p=36335471&gid=535#36335471
...and please can the in game rank column list the Wow ranks as 0 (Higest rank) to 9 (Lowest) instead of 1-10? It will make it less confusing for people trying to set up ranks.
Thanks!
I've just tested and you're partially right (unless I've gotten mine set up wrong). If I do the manual import (and, of course, set to sync the ranks) the ranks seem to pull across correctly. The automatic one does not.
As far as actually setting up the ranks is concerned - I think you probably have to do a manual sync to start with, in order to pull how many ranks you have from the armories - then you can assign them?
Yeah, the ranks do appear to be coming form the armory just fine I think , its just that the Roster isn't getting populated with ranks for the characters....so my rank badges aren't showing up in posts...unless I modify each character in the roster and tell the site manually what rank they are on my own. ALso unlike v4, there are no Character lists in the V5 site that Lists the Characters and what their rank is from the game. Just lost of info missing with v5.
Are we talking about the difference between the default V5:
and something similar to how the V4 roster looked:
Because I've been having a play - and I suspect I did this a while back and forgot, and somehow it's borked again - both the above are from a V5 site. The same site actually. The top one is the default and the bottom one I mashed together the url for visiting the roster of a V4 site together with the guild name and ID of the V5 site - and the bottom picture is the result. Which is also what I'm looking for.
I seem to recall a while back I amended the guild roster URL via the primary navigation in the admin panel.
Because the Roster button was a default drop down, I don't believe there was anything at the time actually linked to the button itself - you clicked to get the drop down options, then clicked on one of those. So I added a URL so that, when i clicked on the button itself, I arrived at the roster in list form as above.
Something has obviously changed because now, regardless of what url i use, I still end up at the top image.
Even if I make a navigation link to a "specific URL" and use the mashed together one, I still get the top image. Yet if I use exactly the same url in my browser, I come out at the bottom image.
The only way I've found around it, so far, is to use the widget "link box" (or I suppose you could just use a standard HTML widget) and create a link to it through that.
Sorry for the late reply, got busy on other things and just now getting free time to focus on this. I really was hoping for some feedback from a DEV on this issue as well. Poisonenvy, your feedback and help on trying to resolve this has been most appreciated.
I refreshed myself on this issue and determined there are two way ranks are set on V5. Ranks by member and Ranks by Character. Member Site ranks have to be set manualy and then you can tell it to assign that rank to thier character. This method is not ideal for me for three reasons. 1.) I dont know the ranks of everyone in teh guild. 2.) I members characters may not all be the same rank in teh guild. 3.) I dont want to manage ranks all the time. It needs to be automatic by way of Character importing.
This brings me to my problem.... If you go to the Site Administration page: Rosters -> Ranks, you see that the "in game rank #" field is bank and it cannot be set while configuring your ranks. Because of this if you go to Rosters > Characters, you'll see that the "Ranks" field show "Not Set" because the import isnt applying the Ranks as it should be although, Import ranks is checked when doing an auto or manual update. To make things work right with ranks and make the site apply rank badges to members properly, I have to set the rank of each member manualy and I dont want to do that. The old site version was completely automatic using the imports.
If there is something about the new Version 5 Site thats changed on how it imports and manages ranks, let me know, so far I havent found how to make this work yet like in version 4.
So you're saying that, when you go to Roster > Ranks you have no rank # ?
This is what I have on mine:
Once you've done an import, the site should automatically work out how many ranks you have set on the Armories (potentially this may not work at the moment as Blizzard are in the process of changing their site, and a lot of sites that take information from the Armories are having problems getting it from the guild roster pages at the moment) you can then edit each rank to give it the name you gave in-game.
Rank #1 is your guild leader, so just work backwards from that.
Then what I've done is place an additional rank at the top (lowest rank goes to the top) as "website member". Any imported characters will then automatically be placed in the lowest possible rank, unless you have either of the settings in Roster>Misc Settings set to "yes". I can't remember how I ended up with the lowest being rank 12 - probably a hold-over from a mix of being initially set up on V4, and a rank removed at some point (we once had a "banker" rank for someone assigned to deal with the guild vault).
There are also a few other settings in that section (near the bottom) but to be quite honest it's hurting my brain trying to work it out - but might be what you're after :p
I don't use rank badges or anything like that as to be quite honest it's an achievement just getting people onto the site and interacting - anything else is just fluff for us :p
By the way, I forgot to mention .. the GL team are usually around on the forums, but during busy periods (or non-working periods) it's less likely - at which point it's often faster to contact them through either email or the chat bubble on the bottom right of your website page.
What I've sometimes done, if the problem seems a bit long-winded, is posted on the forums first, and then, if I've not had a response, given them a bit of a tickle via the chat bubble, with a link to the forum post.
If indeed you are using Version 5 Beta then somthing is wrong on my end. The following Image is what my rank page looks like... Its like yours only Ive added rank Badges....Notice my In-Game Rank column is blank....
I thought maybe the site wasnt working correctly with Chrome...so I tried Internet Explorer, same result.
Ive done these rank settings many times over....the only difference this time is im using The V5 Site.
Ive imported and selected Sync Ranks and everything.
Hmm .. that does seem to be wrong .. I'd send an email to support support@gamerlaunch.com
or use the chat bubble to request help.
I'm definitely on version 5 (www.darkwolves.eu) - but it was originally V4, so potentially some of my layout and settings could have been legacy ones from the old site.
I'm assuming that the guild has been around for a while (to allow time for the import to be carried out) and that you've done a manual update to ensure the ranks are synchronised?
There's a guide here: https://guildlaunch.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/462158-world-of-warcraft-roster-imports-information
The Site Im working on ( http://tik.gamerlaunch.com/ ) Was created initially by a guild member. He got lost with it and he handed it over to me. So V5 from the start and no conversion from V4. Ive done many many manual imports and auto import has been configured as well, so it does daily imports and updates. The site has been around for a few months now.
I guess Ill just have to send them email - its going to be lengthy as Ill have to explain all this again. Ugh! LoL
Thanks for your help! =)
