'ello, Launchies - we have a lot of new functionality and updates to let y'all know about! :) You may have heard some of these through our PMs, but here is a quick, convenient list of what's been added recently:
1. Translation Updates
The translation engine is going full steam - we have translated almost the entirety of the application into a number of different languages, and even added functionality to the registration process so that our international userbase can select their language when they create a new account!
When registering a new account, a user can set their own language (from English, French, German, Russian and Spanish at the moment, though that's growing!) to translate all existing functionality. This is in addition to the site settings (where a user can translate their site for all users), so you can have one user on the site reading in French, another in German and have set your site to be English for the majority of users!
This is also configurable on your User Profile.
2. AQWorlds Integration
We've sent out a few PMs about this, but there is a lot of new functionality linked to Adventure Quest Worlds that deserves mentioning.
Not only can you automatically create your guild site through the in-game guild hub in AQWorlds, but you and your guild mates can automatically join that site without having to go through the application process! Just sync your AQWorlds and Guild Launch accounts by following these instructions and you're set!
There is also the new AQWorlds Important Link widgets, which AQW players can use to easily access useful information about the game from their guild site.
3. Banter on iOS and Android!
While the iOS version is still in beta, we now have a mobile app for Apple and Android users!
You can download the iOS version here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/
You can download the Android version here: https://play.google.com/store/
4. Recruiting Updates
We have updated our recruiting functionality in a number of ways. Not only is it easier to find ( http://www.guildlaunch.com/
You can now search for guilds in your time zone, in your language, and even by the activity on the site! This makes it easier to find new guilds, and for new guild members to find you.
I just can't seem to get the recruitment thing to produce the expected results.
For example I just made a random search for any WoW English guild and sorted by number of members, and it didn't work. It brought back results, but they weren't in any obvious order and certainly not in member number order.
I tried searching via activity, to see if it would bring our guild (dark wolves) up somewhere near the top. I wasn't expecting it to be very near the top .. perhaps a few pages in, but I'd certainly expect it to be higher than guilds that have member numbers in the single figures, or those that haven't been posted to for months.
Poisonenvy, I saw your post, but didn't have a full response yet. As you can imagine "active" for a guild is an interesting functional, and academic, question. The current algorithm may be missing one signal or overemphasizing another. I will definitely take a look.
Haha ... no worries. I'd guessed you'd seen mine, when you responded to a post right after - just wanted to know if the sorting was working as designed, or if there was something not quite right.
It doesn't seem right to me but, as you said, "active" could mean different things to different people.
I assumed, from when you said "and even by the activity on the site! " that "active" referred to number of members logging into the site on a daily, weekly or perhaps monthly basis, but from the sounds of it, you perhaps have more calculations included in the sorting than that.
Basically .. if I know which activities are tracked and included in the "activity" sorting option, I can look into perhaps improving that on my site, to bring it further up the list as, currently, it's buried deep, many many pages in, behind rather a lot of seemingly inactive sites.
So, I'm in the process of scoping out Banter for my guild (our site is the-indelibles.wowlaunch.com/ ) and I'm not seeing much information on actually using Banter. I downloaded the app on my Samsung Galaxy. I can see several gaming communities that I belong to in the 'Call' screen. But what I don't see is how to enable chat or events, etc. Do I have to have other people in channel to have those options available? Does the guild calendar in any way feed into Banter to automatically notify users of upcoming events? Or is this a manual task? And if it's a manual task, how does one set events?
If there's a tutorial out there that I'm just not managing to find, I'd be happy to be pointed there -- otherwise I'm needing a little hand-holding here.
