If there is any other functionality you'd like to see, we would love to hear about it - there is a link to our Feature Requests area at the top of this site.
Since the forum was archived I've just created a new forum here with the exact same structure and started making new posts in there to keep the activity going a little bit and for the tacs etc. (normally no double topicnames)
This however makes me wonder wether I won't have problems if I use the import tool to import the old forumdata into the new one.
So first of I'ld like to know if I'll have to manually move the topics to avoid problems with topicnames (shouldn't be any but still) or due to the fact the forum already exists?
Secondly I'm wondering if the topics that were configured in HTML will still show up decently as they do now in the archive? Since with the guildlaunch-forum the html is limited and doesn't support as much html as wowstead did.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Agree with you.
We've had quite a few community threads that we wish to reopen, coz making a new thread for those really doesn't make any sense. We'd like to continue where we left off and we were promised that.
Starting all over is a waste of time and a bit of history gets lost. I'd like to know, honestly, if there will be something in the NEAR future or that feature will be tossed aside and not done at all?
Are there any new or meaningful updates as to where this forum import tool is in the process? This is coming up on two months past the wowstead forced conversion date now and the updates on the conversion process seem to have stopped completely as of a month ago.
When the wowstead conversion was initially announced, my guild like many others was extremely apprehensive about moving site hosts and was very concerned about data loss following the move. In the weeks leading up to, and immediately following the move, the Guild Launch team was very forthcoming and open with their communications about expectations we should have for data migration, what would and would not be able to be moved, and provided timely updates which helped guild leaders and officers for their guilds to better prepare their guilds for the move. Since the migration data was imported however, this communication has come to a grinding halt.
Speaking for my guild, I can say that we were very appreciative of the quick turnaround on initial migration tools such as the gallery import functionality, this was a very low priority for us as we already had the initial images and could easily have uploaded the needed ones again with minimal effort. The forum data conversion however has become a very sore subject in our guilds meetings as of late. While the data itself has been imported into the appropriate staging area we still have no way to let our members access it. Because this data more or less has "disappeared" due to the lack of conversion, our guilds active conversations, discussions, research notes, and social conversations have stopped because they don't want to go back and re-create months of conversation threads which were ongoing. The last major communication update that I see we received on the migration was an email back on August 19th (almost 2 months ago) and the only way I was able to find any details on where the conversion was currently, was by crawling through the forums till I found this post on the subject.
From a customer support perspective, not only is the lack of feedback following the initial data conversion efforts very disturbing, but really leaves our guild feeling that we were mass converted, left to rot with no follow through on a half finished conversion of the wowstead data, and have had what good conversations and discussions were ongoing locked away from them. While it is nice to see that the developers are able to build new features which are being launched (such as the forum editing tools), I think that perhaps getting some meaningful updates and progress on where the efforts to convert the wowstead forum data would help to keep guilds like ours more inclined to hang on a bit longer before giving up completely on getting any of our data back. For my guild, we currently running on the remaining credit given to us from our last wowstead billing cycle. If this conversion for the forums is going to continue to remain an outstanding item that remains unaddressed and undiscussed, then we will likely not be electing to put any further contributions in and go down to minimal services while we look for other options.
The WYSIWYG editor for the forums is essentially the next step in the migration process - we now have functionality in place that will better handle a migration from the archived state the forum posts are in at the moment to the live forums.
I'll talk to our developers on Monday to get more information, but the former WowStead userbase has not been forgotten. :)
Still waiting to hear about our ventrilo that we had from WoWStead... Its been 3 freaking months!!! PLEASE GIVE US THE ABILITY TO PAY FOR OUR VENT AND THE ABILITY TO USE THE CONTROL PANEL!!!!
Sorry for the delay! There were some hangups getting all the voice data, but we now have it and this will be added in the next few days.
