New Feature: Delete Guild
Deleting a site is not currently supported functionality. This post is dated and does not reflect the current product.

Ok, the delete guild feature is finally here. You can go to your guild tab on your user page or guild hosting properties in admin and you can then see the form used to delete guilds.
Keep in mind this is a destructive process. It deletes the guild in it's entirety and is unrecoverable. We make you jump through some hoops to keep you from doing it accidentally. Make sure you are deleting the correct guild. Keep in mind that you can have 2 guilds with the same names, but the subdomains must be unique. So you can tell the difference between guilds by their URLs.

Hi, i have two different guilds one is the free version and the other is paid, they ar under two diffent accounts, i would like to delete the free version guild account so as i can recreate it by adding it to the account of the paid guild page, is it viable to do it this way or is there a more simple of doing this and if i do delete the free guild how long before i could recreate it under the paid account?
Why exactly do you want to move the guild site? Our subscriptions are tied to specific guild sites, so you can't create a site "under yoru subscription" the site you signed up with is the site for the subscription. Now, that doesn't mean we can't work that out. I just need a bit more info about what you want to do.
Do you want the subdomain from the free site? Is that why you want to move it?
If so, then delete the free site, then go to the paid site and go to Admin then click on the Guild Hosting Properties link on the left. Once the free site is deleted you can then use that page to change the paid site's subdomain to that of the free site and you will be able to do it immediately.
Let me know if there is some other reason you want to swap them and we'll get it worked out.

Guilds can't be manually delete anymore because rogue site admins were using it to be mean in drunken rampages. I jest, but you get the point. If you go to your Guild Tab on your Profile you will have a link that lets you leave the site. Leave the site that you want to go away and then after a period of inactivity the site will be automatically removed from the system.

Okay .. I have a WoW guild www.darkwolves.eu and created another one to complement it for our Star Wars guild. At the same time another guildee from the WoW guild (who is now the guild leader of the Star Wars guild) also created a star wars page.
So I came here, saw I couldn't delete the new site I'd just made and saw the recommendation to just leave the other guild using the link on my profile. I was VERY careful to ensure the url referred to the star wars website when i left the guild, however it (or I) have completely buggered it up and I've gone and left the WoW site instead of the star wars one!
What do I do?!

In fact .. its all very confusing. On my main website, the world of warcraft one (www.darkwolves.eu), if i click on my username and go to the Guilds tab I have the following options:
Leave dark wolves (the url for which is for the wow site)
Go to Admin (the url for which goes to the star wars site)
If i click on my username on the star wars site, the options are:
Leave dark wolves (the url for which is for the star wars site)
Go to Admin (the url for which goes to the star wars site)
... and I've realised what happened now. The url that I was careful to check, for the "leave" option, simply is the url of which site you happen to be on at the time. Gah!

Okay I've sorted it .... of course I should have realised it would simply pass admin to one of my officers, so I just got them to check and pass admin back. I'm such a wally!
I would suggest that it might be worth making it more obvious which guild you are leaving ... in think it was mainly a problem with the template layout more than anything else, but that could have been my fault as much as anything.
Anyway .. sorted :-)
Merry Christmas.

Poison, I'm glad you got that sorted out. We'll definitely look into that and work on making it more clear.

I am not seeing any place where I can delete my guild, either on the user or guild admin pages....
any help?
never mind, I just left the guild and there is no more people in it... so you can delete nocturnal-soldiers.guildlaunch.com when you get a chance.

why did you stop it? did you get rid of all the old guilds and make more room for new ones?
You need to keep the delete guild system.

I would imagine because too often they have complaints because a long-standing guild website got deleted when one of the admin spat their dummy out after an argument with guild-mates.
I think I saw somewhere that if you're the only member of the website, if you leave it (thus leaving it memberless) the site would get removed during a standard clean-up - but I could just be imagining that!

Poisonenvy is spot on, as usual - the deletion feature was being abused by site owners with chips on their shoulders, and we would get a deluge of tickets about sites being deleted because the site owner decided to get back at a guild member, or someone had a bad day and decided to quit the game (but really wanted to come back after two hours)... it was a mess.
