Ever wondered what it’s like to be a demigod? This month, you’ll have the chance to find out.
SMITE, the popular MOBA developed by Hi-Rez Studios, hit a major milestone this week. Since its launch in March of 2014, SMITE has attracted over 10 million players worldwide. Hi-Rez wants to celebrate this achievement and reward the players who helped make it possible. So they’re bringing back their Hercules model with a brand-new voice pack. And to some of you, he’s going to sound really familiar. This iteration of the hero is being voiced by Kevin Sorbo – star of the 90s TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. (If you aren’t familar with the show, you’re probably familiar with its wildly successful spin-off, Xena: Warrior Princess.)
Sorbo’s voice-acting breathes fresh life into SMITE’s most recognizable demigod. And Hi-Rez is giving him away for free – kind of. If you win 10 PvP matches during the month of August, you’ll get Hercules, along with the new voice pack and a Retrocles skin (which is really the original Hercules model from SMITE’s PC beta days).
sauce: 10 Million SMITE Players
The game has come a long way since the original Herc model was in use, becoming one of the most well-established titles in the MOBA world. Alongside other big players like League of Legends and Dota 2, SMITE has also made a splash in the eSports scene; Hi-Rez hosted its first SMITE World Championship in January of 2015 – less than a year after the game’s initial release. It may only be in its second season, but SMITE is a fast-growing force on the MOBA scene.
